2 x 2

This is a hub page for the 2×2 project

2 x 2 is a unique project that aims to bring together some of the finest new graduates with established contemporary artists, working together to create dual exhibitions through collaborative residencies. The project will be augmented by a project publication bringing fresh voices to bear on the concerns at the heart of the project. Updates on the project, calls and news, will be published centrally, on this page and on the individual pages for each phase of the project to keep our audience and members updated.

2×2 Part 12 by 2 residency Ad 1

Part 1 of the 2×2 project, sees talented paint graduate taking up residency in the 126 studio for the month of April and will be paired with an established contemporary artist via Open Call. During the month’s residency the two will correspond, meet in person or use technology to develop a dual show with the curatorial support of the 126 team, that will be shown in the 126 Flood Street gallery during the month of August. We’re excited to see how fruitful this exchange of knowledge techniques and interests might be, not only for the artists involved but for our audience and membership.

The Open Call for Phase 1 closed at MIDNIGHT on MONDAY 14TH MARCH. It is our pleasure to announce that Ruby Wallis has been selected to work with Shane Berkery during Phase one of the 2×2 project. Their residency will take place in April with a dual exhibition at 126 in August.

In order to develop the ideas that prompted the creation of this project- the challenge of emerging into the Irish contemporary visual art scene, and the greater struggle to perceive oneself as ‘an artist’ post college; 126 will develop a unique, limited edition publication containing interview, original critical writing, creative writing and theoretical inquiry. This unique work will be released at the opening of 2×2 Ex 1 and will be available in our online store and from the gallery.
